Migration in Chile: Inclusion of Haitian Kids in Educational Context.

Migration is a current and controversial topic nowadays worldwide. In Chile, most of the immigrants arrived are looking for jobs and maintaining a more comforting life. That´s the reason why a big percent of immigrants are from Latin-American countries, such as Peru, Colombia, Venezuela, and in the latest years there has been an increase in the number of immigrants that came  from Haiti, this event can be related with the numerous economic problems and crises that have occurred in this country.
Chart N°1
Visas granted to Haitian people

This is a Chart that shows the number of visas granted to Haitian people for their residency in Chile, in a period that goes from 2005 and 2015. As we can note, since 2010 there has been a slightly increased in the number of visas, but in 2014 there is sharply rise from 3644 visas to a peak of 8888 in 2015, which means the number of Haitian people arrived in Chile has increased considerately.
Now, adults many times don´t leave their country by their own and they bring their children with them to this new land. According to stadistic data, almost of a 13,5% of the Haitian immigrant in Chile are children between 0-14 years old, and from this percent, atleast the half of them will enter to chilean primary education. The adaptation to a new country it results difficult for kids, even more if it is cultural and etnically different. About this, we can also consider the linguistic barrier, the big majority of Haitian children doesn´t speak Spanish as their native language, fact that makes difficult their adaptation and their inclusion in the social and educational context. We have to consider also the racism element, since Chile is an extremely racist country with people with dark skin. Here it comes the problem of how does manage the State for guarantee the educational inclusion to Haitian immigrant kids.

About this, the Chilean State hasn´t enact enough laws for this regulation, and it´s a duty for the State to regulate this topic and give opportunities to kids for their develop as persons, and not necessary as Chilean citizens, because when it comes to education rights it doesn´t matter the national barriers.

  1. I wonder if we could consider migration a national issue or a governmental policy. Is interesting to see the view scholars have on the phenomenon as well.

My favourite concert

It's so hard to chose a favorite concert because every concert I attended was amazing, but I think the most special for me was the concert of Florence and the machine in Lollapalooza 2016, it was amazing because I wanted to see Florence since a long time ago, I was a huge fan of her and I had the lucky of being close of the stage, I almost cried when i saw her so close of me. The best part was I didn´t knew I was going until the same day of the concert, I was not going because I did not have money for a ticket, lollapalooza is too expensive and I accepted I would have to watch it from my computer. I was pretty sad, but then a miracle came from the sky and a classmate told me I was selling two tickets for less than the original price, I did not think it twice and I bought them. I swear I sang every song in the concert, and not just from Florence but also from Alabama Shakes and Noel Gallagher, it was one of the best days I've had.

My future job

I don’ like to talk about my future job because I recently started my career and I’m still learning all the things I can do and the topics I can treat. In difference with other people I don’t know yet what things an anthropologist does, I know in which places they work it’s just that I’m not sure about what they do exactly, but I’m not worry about it and I’ll think about my work when I be finishing the career, in a long time from now. Ok so have said that, I’m gonna talk about a utopian job, which is: being a videogames youtuber. It´s the perfect job ever. I mean youtubers –the successful ones- earn  money thanks to their videos, there are some who get games and consoles for free because the brands give it to them for promotion. It has the bad side too, because It´s not a stable job and actually people don´t consider it as a job so I wouldn´t be recognize as a real worker and I also wouldn't have a stable salary, but is definitely better than waking up every morning at 6 am and go ...
